In addition to encouraging the whole community to stay fit – The Maryland Half Marathon raises money to benefit the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. New this year, Dozer’s Dash at the five-mile marker honors the Goldendoodle who raced into the fun in the 2011 race.

The start/finish line area of the race is a nice place to see the runners take off from the jump, and wind down to the finish. This position sits right near the post race festival in the commercial district of Maple Lawn. Set up camp at the five-mile marker, then move down to the start/finish area to see the winner of the marathon cross the finish line.

If you’re looking for a place to camp out at along the Maryland Half Marathon course, the five-mile marker is the best place to be. Expect to see a pooch on the loose because this is where Dozer, the goldendoodle, joined the race last year.

Dozer’s Dash
Near corner of Lime Kiln Road and Browns Bridge Road

Hours: Sun, May 6 – 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
In the 2011 Maryland Half Marathon, Dozer escaped from his owner’s yard and ran alongside the race participants from the five-mile mark to the finish line. He made national news last year with his dash, and his 2012 commemorative run marks the occasion. In this leg of the marathon, the man and woman with the lowest time will receive an award as the Top Dog of Dozer’s Dash.
Kid’s One Mile Fun Run
Starts at approximately the 12-mile mark
Price: free to watch/$15 for participants
Hours: Sun, May 6 – 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Watch kids 12 and younger duke it out in a one-mile marathon. In the Kid’s One Mile Fun Run, children will race to the same finish line as the half marathon runners. Runners in the Kid’s Fun Run will receive T-shirts as well as medals for their participation.

Celebrate the race with family and friends at the post race festival. Enjoy plenty of food and beverages as well as a free concert. All ages are welcome. It’s a great way to mingle with the marathon participants and sponsors.
